Danske Bank Senior Java Developer interview questions

Applied via recruiter, got homework task to create REST endpoints for 15 puzzle game. It required to make RESTful endpoints, OO, covered with tests solution without game solver or front end. All should be held in-memory, no DB needed. After sending solution covering main requirements, I got answer: "This seems like a very basic approach to the problem. Simple doesn't have to mean bad, the simpler we solve problems the better, but this is somewhat outdated and narrow-minded for what we would expect of a senior dev joining a team. We won't invite the candidate for the interview." The task description asked for a basic implementation and didn't specify how sophisticated it should be. Such answer leaves poor impression about company culture and respect for candidates time.
