I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Digital Extremes in June 2020
Interview
Though with some issues at first, the overall process was nice. I had started the application for a different position at first, due to some misunderstanding of the hiring company that was intermediating. When I got to the interview, both DE and I realized I wasn't a good fit for that role. However, after the interview, I suggested the Technical Designer role, which is something that I really wanted too. DE agreed with that and we continued the process for that opportunity.
The first step is a technical test in Lua, using the engine Love2D. After that, there is one interview with the Technical Designers team lead and one person from the HR department. Then, there is a final interview with the lead again, and a few more designers, all accompanied by a member of the HR department. Every step was really smooth, people were respectful and supportive all the way through, with some fun moments in every conversation.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The interview questions encompass technical and design-related topics. There were questions specific regarding my technical test, about parts of the script that could have been improved or about bugs that I had unfortunately left unchecked. Other technical questions included multiplayer, performance, etc. In terms of (game) design, they've asked a lot about my design process, approaches to certain fictional/existent situations (from my past experiences), how I tackled certain challenges and other questions along those lines
