I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Digital Promise (Oakland, CA) in July 2020
Interview
The hiring manager contacted me and set up a phone interview. Even though this doesn't relate to the job description, the hiring manager asked me about how I would facilitate conversations about Black Lives Matter and what experience I had with that. At the end they didn't mention anything about their timeline or interview process. When I asked, they said they didn't have a timeline; they wanted to leave the job posting open for diverse candidates to apply. From comments like this, I got the distinct impression that the hiring manager only wants to hire a Black candidate, and no matter how I answered questions or how relevant my experience was I wouldn't have a chance. If that's their preference, I just wish they hadn't wasted my time. I not only wasted the time on the interview itself, but I wasted time learning about their organization, what this role's responsibilities would relate to in their organization, and otherwise preparing for the interview. And I got my hopes up because my experience is very relevant for this role. They got my hopes up for nothing. If they had bothered to look at my Linkedin profile, as they should have if race one of their hiring criteria, they would have known from my Linkedin profile that I'm not Black, so they shouldn't have contacted me for an interview.
