I applied online. I interviewed at Discord (San Francisco, CA) in July 2020
Interview
I applied directly online and spoke to a recruiter that reached out. The recruiter did a great job explaining the process and setting timing and expectations. I then had a couple of phone calls with the hiring manager and the head of the Data department and to get an idea of the teams as well as the expectations of the role. After we both felt there was a good fit, I then did a technical take home data challenge. They promptly reviewed my submission and I was invited for a full-day of "on-site" interviews.
Note that all of the "on-site" interviews were remote video chats over Discord due to the ongoing quarantine. While not the ideal, it’s completely understandable given our current circumstances. In fact, these interviews gave me a pretty good idea of what it would be like to remotely interact with people at work.

Question 1
Since I was applying for a manager role, I was impressed that once they established I could handle the technical aspects of the role, they really dug into my people skills, ethics, and management philosophy. The interview process made it clear to me that Discord puts a lot of time and effort into caring about their employees’ well-being and their opportunities to grow, as well as building an incredible product.
