I applied in-person. I interviewed at Domin Fluid Power (Bristol, England) in Mar 2026
Interview
At one point, when I was trying to demonstrate how my previous experience aligned with the role, the CEO responded abruptly by saying, “We’re not going to buy your luminaires,” referring to the OEM I had worked for. That was dismissive.
The interview felt more like a box-ticking exercise, without much of a natural, human conversation. They just read out from the pre-prepared list of questions. The feedback I received was that my answers were too broad and lacked clear structure.
Bad vibes overall.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Domin Fluid Power (Bristol, England) in July 2024
Interview
Take-home tech questions were far too open-ended and could have required a vast effort to complete. These should have been narrowed down, or phrased to clarify that the act of goal selection and time management was part of the expectation. There was a great deal of uncertainty around how much time and effort would be sufficient. I think I spent maybe 5 hours or a bit more, which is a fair bit over the 2-3 hours I would usually allow.
In-person tech interview was a good experience, individual team members were polite and engaging and gave me a positive outlook on joining the company. I expected more opportunities to go in-depth to some coding aspects but otherwise appreciated the high-level whiteboarding tasks and felt it was a good match for my background.
In-person CEO interview was a very bad experience and left me quite shaken up. He made like an amateur psychologist and persisted in asking intrusive personal questions with a probing and condescending demeanour. I've purged most of this in a 'forget and move on' approach but some of them are noted or paraphrased below.
I was rejected on the basis of 'culture fit'.

I wouldn't recommend hiring you because you don't know what you're doing in life. You might convince me to change my mind if you send me at least three messages by various channels (email/phone/video links) demonstrating consistency.
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Domin Fluid Power (Pucklechurch, England) in July 2024
Interview
The interview process was straightforward. I was asked to do a trade test for mechanical aptitude which went well. I didn't get the job as it was given to someone else without them bothering to let me or the agency know. Disgusting behaviour.
