I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash (San Francisco, CA) in June 2020
Interview
Although I didn't receive an offer, I felt the interview process was fair, well-structured, and seamlessly coordinated by the recruiting team. The process went as follows:
Step 1: phone screen with hiring manager (20-30 minutes)
Step 2: take-home analytics exercise (24 hours to complete)
Step 3: two behavioral interviews with team members (30 minutes each)
Step 4: four behavioral/case interviews with mix of senior leaders, team members, and cross-functional partners (30-45 minutes each)
I began interviewing for a different role on the Merchant team, but was notified prior to my final round interviews that the role was being put on hold. The recruiter was very kind and willing to pass along my resume (and prior interview feedback) to the hiring manager of another position that I expressed interest in. After speaking with the hiring manager, they immediately moved me along to the final round interviews for the new position. Every person I spoke with was friendly, smart, and genuinely interested in my responses. The recruiter and recruiting coordinators were also some of the best and most responsive I've seen at any company. The recruiter notified me of their decision over the phone and provided helpful feedback as to why I didn't receive an offer.
Interview tip: DoorDash hires a lot of smart people, many of whom have strong backgrounds in consulting or investment banking, so be prepared for a similar interview format as consulting/banking. Every interview question is very intentional. Questions as innocuous as "What are your favorite startups?" are purposeful and seeking to reveal something deeper. They don't actually care about which startups you love; they want to see how effectively you can teach them about something new (like a random startup they've never heard of). Unfortunately for me, hindsight is 20/20. Looking back, I wish I would have responded in more structured, concise ways.
