Interview
The interview process began positively. I applied for the Collections Manager role and was contacted quickly. The recruiter was friendly and conversational, and my interviews with leadership were comfortable and engaging. I felt there was mutual interest, and I really enjoyed speaking to their hiring team. *Partway through the process, I was informed that they had decided to promote internally to the Manager role and offered me the Assistant Manager position instead. I appreciated the transparency and remained interested, and had also expressed that to the recruiter. *They extended an offer $12k below the salary I had clearly communicated early on, and they had acknowledged that when offering me the other role. I countered with a reasonable adjustment ($6–8k higher). I didn’t hear back for several days. When I followed up to confirm travel plans they had suggested so I could meet the team in person, I was then informed the offer had been rescinded due to “budget and compensation structure.”*This decision was only communicated after I reached out — just two days before the scheduled visit, which would have involved a 3.5 hour one-way trip for me. About a week later, the same Assistant Manager role was reposted with a listed salary range of $60–$65k, which was well below both the original offer and what had been discussed throughout the process. *✅ What went well: Professional and friendly interviewers, clear communication early in the process, honest internal promotion decision *⚠️ What was disappointing: The offer felt unstable; rescinding it after a minor negotiation was disheartening. Lack of transparency around actual budget constraints. Reposting the role at a much lower salary shortly after was confusing *🎯 Advice to future candidates: Clarify early whether the role you’re interviewing for is actually still open. Ask about compensation limits up front — especially if relocation or role changes are involved. Be prepared for quick shifts if internal dynamics or budgets change.

Interview
I had a brief 15-20 minute phone call with an HR representative, then took several computer based skills tests, a zoom call with the head of branches lasting about 45 minutes, and finally a call with the branch manager for about 20-30 minutes to see if I'd be a good fit for that particular branch.
