Associate Product Manager New Grad Interview

      26 Aug 2020

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Duolingo (Seattle, WA) in Dec 2019

      Interview

15 minute phone screen with a current product manager then I was asked to pick a KPI and design a new product feature and create a 5 slide deck showing my work and reasoning. I was given a week to do so with no suggested timeframe as to how many hours to spend on it. I spent at least 15 hours working on it, sent it over and then was asked to turn my proposal into a 40 minute presentation which I gave to three product managers. Again, I now spent hours transfering the content of my proposal into a presentation format and preparing for the presentation (conducted via zoom). The interviewers were not engaged during the presentation, I could see them checking phones and showing each other their computer screens with no explanation for why they were distracted. This really threw me off and I felt disrespected because I had at this point invested hours in preparation and wasn't receiving their attention. A few days later (on Christmas Eve!) I got a standard rejection from a no reply email.
