I submitted an application in early summer and got called for an interview the following month. One thing I found a bit strange was being asked to send the person who contacted me three recommendation letters. I didn't understand why they couldn't simply contact the references I had listed on the application. Anyway, I interviewed with a committee of five people, including the person I would have reported to and a couple of folks who would have been in the same department as me. The interview went well although the supervisor acted like she didn't wanna be there and was only going through the motions. What followed the interview is what I would characterize as unprofessional. During the interview, I asked about their timeline and when they would make their decision on next steps. I was told someone would follow up with me within that timeline. That never happened. I sent a follow up e-mail to the supervisor of the position and received no response. Months later, I checked the website and discovered they promoted someone within the company, but my application was still listed as "In Progress." All of this could have been avoided if HR or someone would have simply sent me an update. This was very unprofessional and disappointing. I was far more disappointed with the fact that they clearly didn't value my candidacy enough to let me know what was going on. I think they had already made up their minds.
