I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Dyson (Malmesbury, England) in Mar 2015
Interview
Initially I applied online and also hunted down some recruiters at Dyson on LinkedIn, who I re-sent my application to, just to get some extra attention. The particular recruiters I reached out to were not responsible for the recruitment of the role in question, however were kind enough to put me in touch with the person who was.
The recruiter asked me basic questions about my experience, why I choose to apply to Dyson, my availability, what I am expecting from the role available, etc. She was extremely pleasant (as were all the people I had the opportunity of speaking with throughout the process).
She confirmed immediately that I would be suitable for a telephone interview with the actual hiring manager who would be the future manager of the role itself; recruiters have done their job by this point and it's the engineering managers' job at this stage to determine suitability further.
I had a meeting arrange for 36 hours after the conversation with the recruiter.
There were no specific engineering technical proficiency-like questions, simply questions related to my experience, the huge challenges faced on previous projects, such as:
1. Tell me why you left the first company and moved to the second?
2. How did you manage to pull off what you did during that project? What did you discover was the issue all along? How would you do it differently.
3. What are you expecting out of working in this role at Dyson?
Are you happy working on a part of the design which is already fixed and needs to be redesigned to suit mass production, DFA, etc? Are you happy to e in this type of role (in other words, a role where you ar enot part of the prototyping/decision making process of the concept stage of a product's development cycle).
I felt the interview went very well, however was turned down for the reason that they felt that the role is not a good match for me.
They have since been in touch to put me forward for another role which they fill actually is a good fit, so I hope I had made a good impression otherwise.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Discuss with me the challenging aspects of that project (in my case, 'getting a product certified and ready for production in 8 months').
