I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Elation Health (Edmonton, AB) in Apr 2025
Interview
The entire interview process was fantastic. Every interviewer was genuinely eager to listen and support me throughout. It began with a conversation with HR, who was incredibly kind and clearly explained everything I needed to know about the process, the company, and the team. I then had technical interviews focused on both frontend and backend skills, followed by meetings with a few managers, including the founder. At every stage, the next steps were clearly communicated, and I always knew what to expect.

Simple React coding questions + system design for health system
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Elation Health (New York, NY) in Mar 2022
Interview
Very odd process. Engineering manager asked a few questions about SQL and designing an example function (should have been straightforward), but the interview was conducted in a Google doc and was quite awkward. I firmly believe that a good interviewer makes the experience positive, regardless of outcome, and builds on knowledge to see a person at their best. Sadly this session was not that experience, and consisted of long blocks of silence followed by what felt like fishing for a specific answer or way of thinking. I hope they consider using Coderpad or another modern platform, and decide on an explicit coding or whiteboarding challenge where there's an opportunity to demonstrate skills.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We're sorry that your interview process was anything less than exceptional, and it sounds like this was the case here. We have shared this with our engineering managers and we have used this example to highlight that if an interviewer is not engaged or otherwise distracted it is noticed right away. Candidates deserve 100% of our interviews attention in every conversation. We have also used this feedback to push us to look into different collaborative tools to improve the experience. We hope you will give us another chance in the future should a similar position arise - your feedback has sparked good internal conversation that will help us be better.
I did a 30 minute HR screen. Although the interview was responsive, he seemed very bored right from the start. Of course, the same day I get an automated rejection email. I wasn’t asked any extraordinary or technical questions, and I responded as I have in the past for other companies where I’ve moved on to interview loops. As another reviewer in Glassdoor remarked, they might be trying to check some boxes by talking to underrepresented groups.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We hate to hear that the interview wasn't an enjoyable experience as we strive to provide a positive experience for every candidate. We pride ourselves on the diversity we have here at Elation; it's one of our greatest strengths as a company and it's certainly something we take very seriously. We will share your feedback with our recruiting team to ensure that we maintain our high standards. Please email us at hr@elationhealth.com so we can get more information about your experience and make sure we address it with the team.
Sincerely,
Elation HR
