I applied online. I interviewed at Ellen Bruss Design (Denver, CO) in Jan 2018
Interview
The interview process was quick. I applied, took the cultural assessment, and got an email requesting an in-person interview early the following week. During the interview, I met with two staff members who asked me typical questions about my background. However, most of their questions were geared toward assessing "cultural fit." I was asked about my star sign and "who I was" in high school, which, of course, has nothing to do with how I actually work. I got the impression that they really only want to hire people who are similar to them, which I think they should reconsider since "cultural fit" can be interpreted as discrimination. In the end, I never heard from them again. I guess our stars didn't align.
As a design firm, we tend to ask all the normal interview questions, but like to throw a few creative and quirky ones in — just for fun! These are two of our favorites as they tell us something about the person, rather than their skills. We are certainly sorry that those questions made it a negative experience for you.
