I applied online. I interviewed at English Heritage in Mar 2026
Interview
In person interview, at the job location, with two interviewers each taking it in turns to read off questions and then make notes of your answers.
I waited at the gift shop for only a few minutes and was then greeted by the interviewers, who seemed very nice. Average questions about customer service, my experience of working in retail, teamwork, leadership, IT and adaptability etc. Also had a question I found a little odd as I wasn't given a tour at all, but was then asked what I would do to improve the site- even if I had visited the site before I wouldn't have been there to critique it, so I found this a hard question.
Told I would hear back in three days, but heard back the same day.
Getting feedback was a bit frustrating as they freely offer it, but I kinda had to hound the interviewers a bit. And when they got back to me two weeks later, the feedback was quite a generic response and not very helpful. But unfortunately this has been my experience with english heritage a few times now, which I really dislike about the company as you go through so much effort with the application and interview and if you don't get the job you're sort of cast aside...
