I applied online for a PM role about a year ago. I was quickly contacted for a phone interview. The phone interview was pretty standard, took about 20 minutes, and just seemed to be about getting a feel for who I was and what my goals were. It was a long time ago and I don't remember the questions.
After that, I was asked to take a skills assessment test. As I had no prior coding experience, I found it extremely difficult. I didn't think I did well. Apparently I didn't, because I was emailed about a week after saying that Epic decided to move forward with other candidates.
About six months after that when it was all but forgotten, I got an email from Epic. I am not sure what was going on behind the scenes (maybe a lot of growth?), but they said that more positions had opened up, and they wanted to move forward with the process for an an on-site interview.
A few months after that I was finally able to attend (I was living abroad at the time). The interview was just as everyone else has described it. A long day, being shuffled from place to place, but overall I really enjoyed it. I applied for two different positions (PM and Technical Writer) so I got to talk to many different people and learn a lot about Epic. There were no "trick" questions in my experience, however I did spend time on Glassdoor reading interview questions and preparing answers. Do this and you will be golden!
The case studies were a bit difficult, but also intuitive and interesting at the same time. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Overall, it was some of the most fun I have had interviewing.
The wrap-up at the end of the day deals with logistical questions but also has some curve-ball real questions, so be ready for that. The most difficult part of the day was probably the fact that I had to take a two-hour writing test last, after I had been interviewing since for six hours prior. That was a little draining.
Unfortunately I didn't get to go to dinner the night before because my flight was delayed and got in late, but the hotel staff was very nice and helpful. Make sure you save all of your receipts for transport, parking and food because Epic will reimburse you. I didn't know this until after so unfortunately I hadn't saved my receipts which was a bummer, because with baggage and everything at the airport it got a bit expensive.
I thought my interview went very well and I left feeling extremely confident. I was offered a job as a Technical Writer after a little over two weeks. At this point I have not accepted or declined.
