The interview process consisted of a phone screening, Kolbe Index test and a mechanical aptitude test. The interview consisted of a face to face meeting with the President and Vice President and a tour of the facility afterwards.
The interview dialogue was clear, concise and inspiring. The level of excitement displayed during our discussion was infectious and extremely effective at selling the company as a good place to work.
During the interview they clearly explained how they wanted the person placed into this position to make an impact and asked clear questions regarding experience and approach regarding these goals. The interview was free-flowing and a dialogue rather than a drilling session. There were no right or wrong answers here, only productive discussion on current pain points and future goals and how we would work together to achieve these goals. Our styles of approach were aligned perfectly. They seem open to suggestion and insight and genuinely show a start-up, no afraid to experiment mentality while still being a well-established company.
The new building was in excellent shape, as many of the facilities and equipment were new or relatively new. The quality of the cafe being constructed shows their appreciation for their employees and they only spoke in high regard about the staff.
During the tour I met many employees and every one expressed a positive attitude and welcoming demeanor. You don't usually see this, normally you are met with judgmental expressions and looks of worry, especially when interviewing for management roles. I felt extremely comfortable with speaking to everyone I encountered.
The most impressive thing about this interview process was after I sent along my notes of appreciation for the opportunity, I was sent a hand-written card from the president expressing his gratitude for my time. I've never received this before, from any company, ever.
The only negative I can point to, which I hope to be resolved soon, is about a week later I received an email stating they will not be hiring for this position for 'a while'. This was disheartening but I plan to follow-up to express my continued interest in this position.
I also have to speak positively about the feedback and follow-up. The results of both tests were shared with me, which doesn't happen often and they were actually used during the interview process to direct the discussion. They also answered all email follow-ups and questions promptly, courteously and thoroughly.
Overall, this was the best performance by any company I have ever interviewed with.
