      Senior Software Development Engineer Interview

      24 Oct 2020
      Anonymous employee
      London, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Findmypast (London, England) in Oct 2020

      Interview

I had an initial video call with a recruiter for us both to introduce ourselves and to discuss the company and the roll. It was an open and enjoyable conversation that went well. Next, 2 weeks later, was the first real interview which was 10 minutes of general introductions and chat followed by a 30-minute pair-programming exercise. This was very positive and the three engineers on the video call were friendly, helpful, and put me at ease. Before the interview they had already shared with me the codebase (in fact, it's openly available on GitHub) that we would be working on and requested that I have that ready, building, running tests, etc., before the interview to save time. The final stage, 3 days later was a 3 hour(!!) interview. The length of the interview was initially daunting but once it began it went very smoothly and they allowed a 10-minute break halfway through for all our benefits. Once again, the people were all very open and friendly and much of it just felt like a conversation. For the last part of the interview some of the participants dropped off, others joined, and the conversation turned less technical and more generic. I felt comfortable and was able to ask questions all throughout these interviews. Although this was undoubtedly one of the longest and most thorough interview processes I have experienced, it was also one of the best!
