I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Finnegan Henderson (Washington, DC) in Jan 2023
Interview
The interview process took about a month from application to offer and felt very well-paced and straightforward.
The first step was a conversation with the Head of the Litigation Department. That initial discussion was more about getting to know each other than a formal grilling. It was informative and relaxed, with a focus on my background, interests, and why I was drawn to litigation.
After that, I met with a group of three to four partners. These interviews also weren’t long or particularly intense. Instead of rapid-fire technical questions, the conversations felt natural and conversational. Each partner brought a slightly different perspective, but the overall tone was consistent-professional, friendly, and genuinely interested.
Throughout the process, everyone I spoke with was approachable and kind. It was clear that while they care about competence and experience, they place a strong emphasis on cultural fit. They really want to understand who you are, how you work with others, and whether you would thrive within their team dynamic.
Overall, the process was smooth and positive. It didn’t feel intimidating, and it gave me a good sense of the firm’s culture and priorities.

Only had one interview with the HR department. Asked more general questions about past experiences both at school and outside of it. The interviewer was easy to talk to and kept asking me questions that helped bring out the answers they wanted.
