This was a strange interview with the hiring manager who asked a lot of irrelevant questions and indicated the previous team all quit. After interviewing with him, it was clear why.
The hiring manager appeared dishonest when asked certain questions about why people quit, used very outdated interview questions and appsec practices and was not open to new ideas to help him truly “shift left.” He also wanted to overly burden the developers with tons of tools.
Many of the questions were completely irrelevant to the role, and the hiring manager wasn’t actually listening to what I said. After I answered many of his questions, he would then ask questions that were already answered. It seemed like he was pretending to listen and got a bit arrogant. He does not want to be challenged at all.
I’d suggest reaching out to the former employees under this manager on LinkedIn to get a feel for what the role really looks like. Shortly after the interview, I informed the recruiter that this role is not a great fit and declined to pursue anything further.
