Big assignments are given, and after submitting them, candidates are asked to explain them in detail. Most of these assignments are based on the latest technologies, where solutions are expected rather than just answering questions. They seem to be looking for someone who can technically handle everything, which makes the process feel like a waste of time, as the job description and the actual expectations are very different.
