The job description looked interesting and I was invited to drive up for an interview (4 hours each way). The interview went well, but I was not offered the position.
I was very disappointed the company refused to reimburse me for my mileage. In all my interviews in my career, the interviewing company has always covered my expenses. In all the interviews I have held, I paid an interviewee's expenses. I should have asked beforehand.
When I followed up, I was told they could have done a virtual interview, and wouldn't have the expense.
Perhaps I dodged a bullet. If a company is going to be that cheap when trying to attract talent, what would it be like to work for?
