      Associate Consultant Interview

      26 Dec 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at GEP in Oct 2017

      Interview

Background: 2 case and behavioral as part of 1st round. Followed by super day including 1 group, 2 case and 1 behavioral. Cases are easy with minimal practice required. Just work on structuring the problem. They will cut you off abruptly anyways so no point creating that one good framework. Pros: Nothing at all. Just standard case profit and on easier end of spectrum. If you can't crack their cases then I recommend either reconsidering consulting as a career option or practicing harder. It's REALLY easy. I have given BCG and Bain final round interviews so I am aware of the benchmark. Flat culture. They say that senior leadership is highly accessible but then again every major consulting shop markets that. Cons: Don't know where to start but here goes: a) Rude interviewers. I have given officially designated stress interviews but trust me this one is outright demeaning. Interviewers are snobbish and look down especially a specific majority group. 2 were particularly disinterested throughout. b) Made us wait 1 hour before the start of Superday. Unprofessional to say the least. c) The WORST part, unresponsive to emails for status update. WHY do you even bother writing "reach out to us with any questions" when don't bother replying. The worst aspect about the interview process is not knowing about the outcome and being kept in the dark! Talks volumes about the ridiculous culture although they stress a lot on that as a differentiation. d) Substandard talent. Most of them appeared as "knowing stuff of the internet" as opposed to analytical and innovative. e) Unprofessional workforce. They swear and resort to abusive language during work hours. I encountered that by the elevator. Final recommendation. To company: Practice what you preach. The battle is half won if you just take the pain to notify candidates of the outcome and don't leave them in the dark. Treat candidates as candidates! To prospective candidates: Don't worry too much about the case. Learn about the industry value chain and work only on the fundamentals of solving cases. We were about 6 with 5 from Ivy league and Top 10 colleges. They decided to hire that 1 person who didn't know how to solve a simple market sizing case - " How many gas stations in a city". This should tell about the talent residing between office walls. Anyways. I have a fantastic job offer from a major corporation in the corporate strategy division. So it worked out well in the end. MY ADVISE to anyone who has/will interview is that don't loose heart especially after the pathetic treatment. Things will fall into place. Good LUCK!

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at GEP

      Interview

Easy interview first round. On-campus interview asked a basic market sizing/profitability case. Nice interviewers. Superday had an easy market sizing portion, easy behavioral. Standard consulting. Last case in superday was difficult, I believe it was profitability and market entry. Interviewers were willing to help you though. Never got a response after my superday, company just totally ghosted. Would be nice to get a rejection email after doing 4 interviews but what can ya do. Liked the people but the general consensus among them seems to be that its a mid tier firm and most ppl leave after a few years. Those who stay get rewarded.
