Very supportive and great, 3 stages of interview but every stage made sense and explored a different part of the role/ company and was really insightful. By the time I'd completed all stages I was confident I wanted to work at Gearset
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
SPAG check on an email and creating feedback rejection email
I applied online. I interviewed at Gearset (Cambridge, England) in Mar 2026
Interview
4 stage interview process.
Friendly and competent people, exceptional documentation on interview process.
Detailed and prompt feedback after each stage, genuinely pleasant interview experience you will learn a lot from.
- Recruiter Screen ("Informal chat") (30 minutes, Online): Basic job fit questions, admin questions, what to expect during hiring.
- Technical Assessment 1 ("Telescreen") (30 minutes, Online): Basic functions, nothing too difficult, think fizzbuzz tier, they want to see how you think, not what you've memorized.
- Technical Assessment 2 (2 hours, online or in-person): A more complex assessment, you'll get a skeleton and be asked to implement a spec. They want to see how you reason around the requirements and ask clarifying questions. Focus on test-driven development. Be wary of time, there is less than you think.
- Behavioural Interview (2 hours, online): Basic behavioural interview questions, no trick questions. They emphasize STAR and they mean it, you must be able to point to real example situations, so recall those before you step into the interview.
Feedback was helpful, accurate and actionable and helped me land other roles.

Give us an example where you disagreed with someone on a decision
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Gearset in Aug 2025
Interview
Initial screening call, then an involved call with 2 product managers. The successive call was quite challenging where we went into depth for a number of typical product questions and scenarios. Generally quite pleasant but a tough set of questions.
