I had an exceptional interview experience with Gem. The process was quicker than most in tech (2.5 weeks total) and each session felt meaningful. The hiring team thoughtfully and proactively communicated next steps and where I stood as a candidate; I never felt like I was "left on read".
The full process:
- 30-minute intro chat with the hiring manager.
- Take-home exercise: write a new article in the Gem style using notes from product and engineering.
- One hour writing exercise debrief call.
- Two-day onsite consisting of five sessions where I met with five different people across the org: Working with EPD (Eng), Technical Acumen (Support), Crafting Voice (Marketing), Values (Legal), and Customer Focus (Success).
- Asynchronous reference check (they requested 3 references, including one direct manager).
- 30-min offer call with the hiring manager and head of People.
Everyone I spoke to throughout the process took the time to be fully present (no distracted or disinterested interviewing) and was sincerely invested in this role and what I could bring to the table as a candidate. The stories they told about their roles and the work they do illustrated a culture of passionate, talented, empathetic people working on making hiring more human-centered. I spotted lots of "green flags" that indicated it would be a great place to work, which is why I accepted the offer.
