I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Genesis Healthcare (Carmichael, CA) in Aug 2015
Interview
The nursing manager was very friendly and upfront about all of the challenges the facility faces (i.e. a reputation of elder abuse, difficult psych patients, flagging by Medicare). She explained that all employees at some point will come under review because the residents complain so much. I was told that sexual harassment and possible sexual assault were to be expected and that under her (new) managment, she was working towards having more security staff and putting into place safety procedures to protect the RNs, LVNs, and CNAs. I liked her interviewing style. She was very outspoken and seemed honest and I think I would have liked to work for her; my concerns lay solely with the facility/culture and she is working to change all of that.
Initial interview is with director or nursing, mostly causal conversation. Spoke with administrator next. Didn’t really discuss clinical experience much. Overall less anxiety provoking and relaxed. No weird interview questions
Interview was with the director of nursing, she asked about my long term care experince and how genesis would be willing to train and orient me for the better, interview included almost orientation on what genesis is and what the benefits are of working in this long term care facility
