I had a couple of remote interviews, then an in person interview. The interviews themselves were easy/run-of-the-mill for engineering (but no technical questions). However, despite the hiring coordinator/HR person scheduling and setting up my trip to Indiana for the in-person interview, including booking me a hotel room, the company did NOT pay for any part of the trip or reimburse me after I declined the job offer. They seemed very disingenuous. They were nice until I was no longer interested in the job, at which point it was crickets; no obligatory well-wishes, thank you for your time, etc. which would be fine if that reaction didn’t completely contradict how nice they’d been acting before. Also, during my last interview, the CEO was attending remotely and when I asked a (pretty basic) question about the balance between the number of men and women at the company, he had no idea what the answer was. He essentially said that he’d never heard any complaints about the gender balance so he assumed there were no issues with it. If this isn’t a toxic and ignorant attitude towards gender equality in the workplace I don’t know what is. Hopefully the company learns from the issues they’ve had.
