I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Genworth (Richmond, VA) in Sept 2025
Interview
Applied in early September, rejected in mid-November. Very slow and drawn out process with little in the way of communication. Everything went well, until the final round where a panel member decided their contribution to the interview would be a stupid riddle regarding horse races. As a developer of my experience and work history, I was absolutely flabbergasted that this would be used to gauge my software engineering aptitude and competency. I actually paused mid-interview at the smugness of this individual when he posed the exercise. I knew he'd be a problem when at the start of the interview he actually commented on my professional attire and how he was comparatively dressed so casually. So, by just being there as I was, he felt put off or something. Really? "I see you're dressed so professionally, and here I am with what I got on." The man embarrassed himself, doubled down later, and was probably the deciding vote in my rejection. To top it all off, I had to follow up an entire week later to get the rejection. Who knows how long I would have had to wait? Another month? Get out of here.

Question 1
Oh boy. Here we go. You have 25 horses, and you need to find the top three fastest ones. You can organize races, but only 5 horses at most can participate in each race, and your stopwatch can only take the fastest time for each race (the rest of the finishing times are discarded). How many races will it take to retrieve the top 3 fastest horses out of the 25 total with these constraints?
