      IT Generalist Interview

      10 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub

      Interview

The process was very well defined and clearly stated from the beginning. I felt like the team members I interviewed with were kind and knowledgeable individuals looking to expand the global reach of GitHub. The Talent Partner I was assigned was professional and considerate, so there is a great adaptation at GitHub to make the interview process smooth for the candidate during COVID. Overall, the most intimidating part of the process was the Inclusion Diversity and Belonging interview. I had to speak with someone who was not on the team I was hiring for about topics I don’t feel compelled to be talking about in the workplace let alone an interview. This person could not have been more disinterested in me as a human, but once I pandered to the tenets of I&D then this person seemed to become extremely interested in what I had to say. It was a bit disrespectful if I’m being honest. I only add this as reference since I don’t know what I was supposed to advertise politically in regards to my skills as an engineer. This was the hardest part of the whole interview process due to how hard it is to grapple with politics being a core function as an employee in this company. Very much a turn off for me personally, but that’s how Silicon Valley operates. If you believe in the extremes of I&D principles in the workplace, this is the place for you. If you are even indifferent on the matter then it’s probably best to stay away.
