      Corporate Sales Representative Interview

      16 Apr 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub in Mar 2022

      Interview

Waste of time. Disorganized, disjointed interview process. A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and screened me for a role that required much less experience than I had (clear on both my profile and resume). When I pointed this out, she agreed and set up a manager screen for a more suitable role. The recruiter didn't send over Zoom details, forcing us to miss the original interview date and reschedule. The manager was nice but didn't ask any questions about my background and went straight to behavioral questions. The recruiter followed up the next week to tell me that I didn't have enough experience for the role and asked for my interest in another role earning $50k less than my current salary. She also kept putting me on hold in the middle of our calls. Very bizarre experience.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at GitHub in May 2022

      Interview

One of the worst experiences with a company I’ve ever had. My good friend works for GH and submitted my application internally. It took months to get scheduled for an interview. I finally interviewed with the recruiter and hiring manager. During my interview with the manager, he had no idea I was even a referral and admitted he is normally “nicer” to referrals. My friend also wrote me a very nice letter of recommendation that was never received by the manager. I made it to the final round and completed interviews. Then I got totally ghosted by my recruiter and hiring manager. No word, no updates. Got a standard “your application was denied” email. Tried numerous times to follow up with my recruiter and the hiring manager and got radio silence. My friend even attempted twice to reach out to the recruiter and got ignored. Terrible experience and not professional at all.

      Corporate Sales Representative Interview

      20 Apr 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2022

      Interview

I got referred to GitHub through a Sales Manager. The interview process had four steps to it and took two weeks. 1.) Recruiter phone screen - Basic questions about background, deal size, average deal cycle, quotas, how you performed against it, salary expectations, and hiring timeline 2.) Video interview with a sales manager on the team - It was very conversational and personable. They will want to know your sales experience and what you know about GitHub, and the competitors 3.) Video interview with a sales director - Very personable as well, and easy-going with questions that are focused on technical aptitude, current sales cycle, deals you've won in the past, and how you did that 4.) Video presentation interview with a panel (4 people total) - You're allowed to sell anything you want, but if it's focused on SaaS, that's better. Make sure to close the deal (your candidacy) An offer from GitHub was made 2 days after. No room for negotiation. I think GitHub is amazing! The leaders, solution, price point, and value propositions are all great. However, open-source is supposed to be a free resource for developers. Therefore, scaling that business might be the biggest challenge to overcome with customers. GitHub says they are a remote-first company, but the sales teams are required to live in San Francisco. The OTE is very low compared to other tech companies both big tech and tech start-ups.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - Why GitHub, and why Tech? - What are your transferable skills to SaaS coming from a different industry?
