      Finance Analyst Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Globe Life

      Interview

Fresh out of college with a double major degree in finance and economics and a GPA of 3.8, extremely eager to learn and excel, and a pessimistic naive view of the world- 4 years ago, I applied to what was named torchmark at the time, now called Globe Life. The asked me for a phone call, then to complete an Excel assignment, then an in meeting interview. All of which went very well and they shook my hand as I left the building saying “I really think you would be amazing for our team!” But then they asked me to come in again, and again..,, and another time.... and another time. I ended up having to come in over FIVE TIMES after having an initial phone call with the hiring manager and going above and beyond in their Excel assignment (they even said so). I’d already met the team I would have been working under and a whole bunch of random managers I would have been communicating with. And I passed every single part of it. And I never had understood why, after so many weeks/months of communication and having had come in so many times, that they just ghosted afterwards. But 5 years later, thinking back and reflecting now, I realize why. They didn’t HATE me, but they didn’t want to hire me on. Because I wasn’t white like everyone I talked to was. And no matter how many obstacles they put in front of me and I continued to jump as a fresh grad, they couldn’t formally find a reason to reject me... so they ghosted me. I know they’ll reject this to the death of them bc why would they ever admit to it? Even though they led me on for so long and ended up hiring a white guy with NO internship experience that looked exactly like the rest of the team at the time?
