At first I was pleased. They were clearly interested in moving me along the chain to the hiring manager and we ultimately had a great interview. It took the HR contact over 1.5 weeks to contact me telling me I was one of two finalists and asking me what my goal salary was. I restated by original number and he made it clear that may be a problem (the difference was ~5k). I insisted I was nothing by honest from the beginning and it seemed we were a good fit, so I'd like to figure out a way forward. They then gave me the runaround for several weeks until never officially notifying me that they went another direction. Disappointingly unprofessional.
