      Senior Technical Business Analyst Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Grant Street Group in June 2026

      Interview

Terrible first impression of a company. I applied for the Senior Technical Business Analyst role posted on their website. They sent over a link to an online test that just makes sure you can see patterns and shapes, plus a little written essay. Pretty standard and nothing too difficult. I received an email a day after I finish the assessment, and we get an HR phone interview scheduled. The interview is pretty standard. We talk about projects I’ve worked on, complex tasks I’ve had to do, how I troubleshoot technical issues, etc. Then the question about salary comes up, and I give a range on the low end of what was listed. The whole tone shifted at that point. The HR person said, oh, you actually applied for the non-senior Technical Business Analyst role. The senior requires 5 years of experience. (I have 4 years of experience as a communications lead for an IT department in a 5,000 person organization, followed by 4.25 years of direct technical SaaS analyst experience, with two of those years already in a senior, mentoring role. And the last four years in the exact public sector Grant Street Group works in). I then felt like I had to defend my 8 years of experience because one title didn’t have the words “analyst” or “consultant” in it. That was fine, though. I know HR’s ultimate job with screenings is to make people feel worth less than their market value or identify who is desperate enough for work to give the company a bargain. When I looked back through my emails, I found the original response from my application submission from Lever, thanking me for my application for the Senior Technical Business Analyst role. I emailed immediately to withdraw my application. One of two things happened: 1. The position change was intentional, so they lured people in looking for a senior role and the associated market value salary and see who’s okay with being dropped down. This is just plain sleazy. 2. Or they just don’t pay attention to the details. If that’s the case, what does that say about their software implementation process, their code maintenance process, etc.? Either they’re intentionally deceitful or lacking in attention to important details. Neither of these qualities are forgivable enough for me to want any association with Grant Street Group.

From the HR Team: We regret the confusion regarding your application. As you have acknowledged, it was during the interview process that we discovered your professional experience did not meet the posted requirements of the Senior Technical Business Analyst position. There certainly is no basis for the “two things” you speculate. It was an honest misunderstanding.
