      Customer Service Host Interview

      No offer

      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5+ months. I interviewed at Great Western Railway (Swindon, Wiltshire, South West England, England) in May 2017

      Interview

Online application and questionnaire , then move on to telephone interview with basic customer service questions and if successful assessment centre and possible interview. Selection for interview is very poor and not done at all fairly.

      Question 2

Had 12 people on assessment day. Introduced each other. Split into 3 groups and had one question each to answer between the 4 of us in each group and then present in front of others. One group pretty much used our answers to explain theirs even though the question was different which we were not happy with as we had plenty of answers and they only had basic ones but still stole ours anyway. Then had a "Survival" question where if we were on a boat what would we prioritise, upto 15 items that were on a sheet so had to speak. Only a few of us spoke up in that exercise. Taken back to main room and said about interviews. Only 2 girls went through which was very disappointing. Called them through then told rest of us unsuccessful. Not a very fair way of doing it. The one was a hairdresser who was just chatty all the way through and disputed everything yet seemed better than others who actually had knowledge. Other one had a mother who worked for them so got through on the family issue!

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Great Western Railway (Swindon, Wiltshire, South West England, England) in Aug 2019

      Interview

Filled out the online application form. Heard back from GWR that I needed to complete an online assessment. After that was completed, I received another email saying I needed to complete another assessment. After completing the assessment, I didn’t hear back from them for about 6 weeks. I’d gone on holiday to Spain and got back and still not heard from them. Then one evening boom I receive an email congratulating me and asking me to come to their assessment centre in Swindon which I was happy about. No information about what the interview/ assessment entailed was given. Did my own little research on the company and all. Went for the assessment and we were split into 3 Groups and were asked to do a presentation. After that, we then did a listening test and then a numeracy test as well. Then we were given a little break. After the break, they split us again into 3 groups and asked up to do a little presentation about filling the trolley with snack and drinks on a hot summer afternoon after lunch and explain why we chose the items we did. Once that was done, they give us another little break and then to our surprise the so-called interviewers came in and asked 3 people out of the 13 or so of us to leave the room and then one of the other interviewers came in and told the rest of us that we weren’t successful: JUST LIKE THAT! And asked us to leave. Everyone was gobsmacked as we all thought we did well (apparently not). In fact, one of the Candidates selected had trainers on and didn’t even make an effort to look smart. Really surprising tbh. Has to be one of the weirdest interview processes I’ve ever experienced.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Was in a group. They asked us what How important standards are to a company. They asked one of the other groups what they knew about GWR.
