      Strategic Account Manager Interview

      29 July 2019
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Greenhouse Software (New York, NY) in July 2019

      Interview

Interview was straightforward. They use their own software to coordinate everything...which was awesome. I always knew where I stood in the process and when to expect to hear feedback. The day of the interview went smoothly. I met with individuals from multiple departments to get a feel for the culture. I then went out to grab coffee with a potential coworker to talk about life in general at greenhouse. After coffee, I met with my potential manager as well as another manager for the enterprise account managers. The interview was quite intense and full of "tell me about a time when..." questions. After that, I had a final round with HR and learned the next steps. Overall, it was a super great and friendly experience.

      Question 1

Tell me about a time when you dealt with a customer that was considering not renewing. How did you handle this and ultimately convince them to rejoin?

      Strategic Account Manager Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Greenhouse Software (New York, NY)

      Interview

First call with an internal recruiter. He was very nice and helpful. We had a great conversation and he said he would put me through to the next step. I didn't hear from him so I followed up. He said he sent me a "project" and to check my spam folder. We realized he misspelled my email address so he resent the project. This was a pretty heavy project in creating a learning document on an application. It seemed too early in the interview process to do a project that should take 2-4 days (their estimate) before even speaking with anyone on the team or learning more about the role.

Whoa. Ok, first of all sorry for the problems that occurred here. Obviously mis-typing your email address sounds like a silly mistake but nonetheless one that caused you stress and delay. Thanks for keeping at it through that. To your point about the process: that's a real issue that needs addressing. I totally agree that after just a quick screening call, that take home assignment would be too much work to assign. That's why our normal process is supposed to be that after you speak with a recruiter, you'll have an in-depth, hour long phone interview with one of the senior people in the CS department. This gives both sides a real opportunity to dig in and really get to know each other - experience, motivations, what the role involves, who you'll be working with, etc. Only *after* that should the take home assignment be asked of you and, by then, most candidates have a good understanding of whether this opportunity is worth investing that amount of time in. Sounds like that didn't happen for some reason in your case. I'll follow up with the recruiting team to see what may have gone wrong. Of course feel free to reach out to them or to me directly if you'd like to discuss this further. In any event best of luck in your job search and sorry again for the hassle. Best - Daniel
