      Tax Compliance Specialist Interview

      25 Aug 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Gusto (San Francisco, CA) in June 2021

      Interview

A friend who works here in the tax compliance area which reports to the San Francisco office told me that they were hiring for five additional tax positions and recommended that I apply since I had similar qualifications to his own. I applied and was interviewed by the hiring manager within 10 business days. It all went downhill from there. Control was passed back to the talent acquisition team and I heard nothing for more than a month and only received a response after I sent an email to the hiring manager asking for a status. Then two weeks after that I was scheduled for3 Peer Interviews and a second interview with the hiring manager which actually went pretty well based on his reaction during the interview. I assumed that I had a good chance of receiving an offer. Instead, I got a generic email from the talent acquisition staff saying that they would not move forward with my candidacy. In summary, I spent the best part of two months, was interviewed five times, given nothing but positive feedback and ended up with nothing. Found out after the fact from my friend that they had chosen to fill the positions with internal candidates. I think that is rude and unprofessional to “string me along” for over two months when they had no intention of hiring me over an internal candidate. I don’t blame the hiring manager. The talent acquisition person, however, should be at minimum reprimanded and probably terminated. He did not represent his company very favorably.
