      General Counsel Interview

      3 June 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Houston, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at HAZA Foods (Houston, TX) in Mar 2026

      Interview

I applied for the General Counsel position in mid-February 2026. Two (2) months later, I received an e-mail from HAZA inviting me to interview. This is where the problems started . . . . HAZA is a family-controlled business. While this is not always a red flag, it can create issues (i.e. the family dynamic can impact the professional environment; underqualified/disinterested people are put in positions of importance). In this case, the interview invitation was sent by a young, close family member of the CEO. The invitation requested that I provide my availability for a telephone screen the following week. I promptly responded to the request, but did not receive a response from the interviewer for three (3) days. The response simply stated that she would be traveling on both of the days that I suggested for the phone screen and that I should "suggest another day". (To Highlight the issue: The interviewer suggested that I provide her with my availability to interview with her the week when she knew that she would be traveling AND rather than suggesting a timeframe herself, suggested that I pick a new time). I suggested that we speak the following Monday, which she agreed to. She further stated that she would call me. Curiously, she also asked me to resend her a copy of my resume. On the day of the interview, the Interviewer failed to call me. I both e-mailed her and left her a voicemail at her office asking if she needed to reschedule. Several hours later, she e-mailed me, stating that she was at a pre-scheduled conference and would be out of the office for three (3) days and that she had "mis-scheduled" our call. We eventually rescheduled the interview for later that week. When I finally did speak with the Interviewer, we spoke for only a few minutes (less than 15 minutes). Her questions were very surface level and there was the clear feeling that she was disinterested in having the conversation. Several weeks later, I sent her a note in follow-up, which was ignored for several days. I eventually received a stock rejection e-mail, followed-up by a rejection e-mail from the Interviewer a day or so later stating that the position was Closed. Sure enough, the position was reposted the following day. The place seems to be dysfunctional and family driven (not in a good way).
