I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at HM Prison Service (London, England) in Aug 2021
Interview
I applied online and was asked to provide STAR‑based competency examples. A few weeks later I had a 45-minute panel interview (two interviewers via Teams). I was asked 3–5 detailed questions, all structured with follow‑ups probing deeper into my examples. It felt professional and fair—almost clinical, but respectful. Afterwards, I waited a few days for decision.
I interviewed at HM Prison Service (Rochester, South East England, England)
Interview
Not as expected, very scenario and judgment focused. As well as ensuring you do have good situations in real life to contribute. They were very nice however. Was very nervous.
I applied online. I interviewed at HM Prison Service (Feltham, South West England, England) in Oct 2025
Interview
Applied online, passed the quick assessment, got invited to the interview.
Uncomfortable situation when no eye contact was made and not one opportunity to introduce myself and give a bit of background. Been made feel completely unwanted there and asked vague questions. Expected situational questions or prisoner orientated quiz, for example, how would i deal with an upset prisoner. Not once answered my questions and rushed me out of the door.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at HM Prison Service (Manchester, England) in May 2025
Interview
I had an interview scheduled at HMP Manchester, which I booked for an 11:00 am slot. I received a confirmation email after booking, clearly stating the interview was at 11:00 am. Two days before the interview, I also received a reminder email confirming the same time. I arrived 20 minutes early - 10:40 am. I was told, “Are you aware you were supposed to be here at 10:20?”. I had not been informed of any earlier arrival time. I was then told the interview had been scheduled for 10:20 and that I had failed to attend. I showed the emails stating 11:00 am and was told the interviewers had already left and there were no remaining slots, so I was unable to complete the interview. I had travelled to Manchester specifically for this, incurring costs for transport and accommodation, had taken time off work, and spent time preparing — only to be turned away without any apology, explanation, or alternative arrangements.
