Surface Data Logger - Broussard LA (Sperry Division) Interview

      13 June 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lafayette, LA
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Halliburton (Lafayette, LA) in July 2014

      Interview

Was contacted for interview 4 days after applying on Halliburton site. Interview was scheduled for a few days later. Brief 25-30 minute skype interview with hiring manager from that location. Very friendly and personable guy from the Southeast, enjoyed being asked about his field camp days. Did not ask any specific or technical questions related to the position, with the exception of "what do you know about halliburton" and "what do you know about the sperry drilling division?". Aside from a few general personality/strengths/weaknesses/undergrad experience questions, he spent a lot of the time giving me information about the position, and asking how I felt about certain parts of it, such as the underwater helicopter crash training. He did ask if I was familiar with some sort of Halliburton simulation software, unfortunately I can't remember the name of it now (this was a year ago). Verbal offer was made at the conclusion of the brief interview, and official letter offer was emailed exactly a week later, including paperwork to initiate background checks and physical examination. Physical examination included eye exam, some tests on muscles, heart rate, breathing, hair follicle test, urine test, breathalyzer, sit ups, push ups, squats, and some other random stuff. The physical therapist guy overseeing mine didn't seem to concerned about perfect form or even if I hit the required amount for each exercise; once I completed a few reps or half the time length of each activity he checked it off and told me to move on. The suggested start date was scheduled for exactly 3 weeks after the day I received my offer letter. So basically the entire process from application to first day on the job was exactly 5 weeks...well it would have been if I had accepted the offer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What classes and/or experiences did you enjoy and learn from the most in your undergraduate career? Why do you want to work for Halliburton? What is your biggest strength? What is your biggest weakness? How do you feel about working 13 hour days? What computer software are you skilled in using? *Asked if I had heard of that HB simulation program thing after*
