      Research Assistant Interview

      17 Mar 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Arlington, VA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Hanover Research (Arlington, VA) in Jan 2015

      Interview

Honestly, the end result of this isn't surprising. This process took over 3 months. Like everyone else, this began with an application, moved to an online test, a phone interview with HR, a mock assignment to determine my research abilities, and then an in-person interview. I applied online and heard back 1 month later to take the online test. It then took 2 weeks to schedule the phone interview. It took 2 weeks to schedule the in-person interview after completing the mock assignment. Then I was told it would be 2 weeks for a decision. Two weeks later I was informed they were doing "interval evaluations," and that it would be another 2 weeks before a decision was made. Two weeks go by, and I am told I have to wait for a meeting to occur before a decision is made. I don't hear anything, so I email asking for a status update. I then receive an email saying that I am no longer being considered for the position. During the waiting period, the HR representative I was in communications with was very responsive to me via email, and actually was positive in her responses, leading me to hope that meant I would at least be offered a position. I find it hard to believe that Hanover did not know in advance that they would be performing these evaluations, that they scheduled interviews during the same time period, that they did not make it clear to me that the result of the evaluations meant I might not get an offer, AND that they continued posting available positions during a period that they claimed to not be hiring. I appreciate that some people seem to have had good experiences with Hanover, but it truly was not how I found my own experience nor apparently many of those who have posted here. I passed on other potential opportunities because of this, which I know now I should not have done.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you did not have a positive interview experience. I can understand your disappointment with not receiving an offer. I am sure your recruiter had also hoped to extend you an offer at the end of the process but ultimately the final decisions are made by the hiring managers based on their clients’ research needs. We do understand that our process is extremely rigorous and time consuming and we appreciate the time you have invested in the process. I’m sorry that you felt that we were disrespectful of your time. That was not our intention at all and we will be more mindful of setting clearer expectations in terms of timelines in future. You will always see these core positions listed on our website as it is difficult to predict when business needs may change so we are always accepting applications and speaking with applicants.

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at Hanover Research (Washington, DC) in Feb 2017

      Interview

Met a representative at a university career fair, basic first round interview, interesting written assessment that gives you a great insight into the work you would be doing. Overall a great experience and the people I met seemed like the best you could hope to work with. Couldn't proceed with the process because I needed to accept elsewhere, but would recommend to anyone.

I applied through university. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Hanover Research (Arlington, VA) in Nov 2016

      Interview

Generic questions. I was not selected for the final round. Phone screening was characteristic-oriented, and it was not hard at all. Mostly focusing on previous experiences shown on the resume. The second round was pretty much questions on what you would do in certain situations as a research assistant, and some technical questions regarding research skills.
