I applied online. I interviewed at HarperCollins (New York, NY) in Mar 2022
Interview
I had the opportunity to interview with the same team twice (same position, two different openings). Overall I had a very positive experience interviewing with HarperCollins. I applied online through their career site and was contacted by email to set up an initial interview with the recruiter. Both roles were with their Children's Books Team. The interview with the recruiter was to go over my background/skills, tell me more about the position and she did disclose the salary to me. I did make it to the second round (recruiter contacted me within 24 hours to setup the second interview), which was a Teams interview with the Senior Art Director who the job would be reporting to and the Art Director for the Picture Books team. The interview was very relaxed, which I appreciated. They had me go through my portfolio website and talk to them about my work, they did ask me why I wanted to work for HarperCollins and why I wanted to work in children's publishing. Ultimately I did not get an offer, but the Sr. Art Director did have some very kind things to say about my work and gave me some very encouraging advice. I did get another interview for the same position, but with the VP of the Children's Books team. Also, a very relaxed interview where I was asked to go over a couple of my projects, and I really appreciated that she told me about herself, her career path, and the team as a whole. Ultimately did not receive an offer for the second position, but both were HIGHLY competitive roles and I know they had some tough choices to make. The recruiter did get back to me within a week after my second round interviews to let me know that I didn't get the job.
Honestly, interviewing with HarperCollins was the most positive interview experience I've had. They were very compassionate and communicative.
I feel really encouraged to apply with HarperCollins again in the future, and I definitely will.

Interview
First when I entered I interviewed with the HR, and later with two other designers in the office. They don't seem interested in me and mostly talking with each other, but I appreciate with their time.
