I had a phone call with the advisor. He was not very much interested in what I had to say, mostly he wanted to bloviate about his science, and not so much what I had accomplished. He did want me to have a pHD and some knowledge of chemistry, but at the end of the day, as long as I would work, he likely didn't care.
