I applied online. I interviewed at Helen Keller International in Apr 2026
Interview
Completed the first round which was a somewhat casual, "confirming the responsibilities of the job" interview with someone in HR. This included going through the responsibilities, verifying my experience, and asking if I had any questions about the role itself. I was told the next steps would be two additional interviews with the Development team and a "task"/assignment. When asked what my desired pay would be (the range for the position states the pay range is $53,000 - $74,667), I was flat out told they usually only hire at the median range ($64,000) and weren't particularly willing to budge on that. I struggle to understand why they would provide a range at all given this information. The interviewer did not seem prepared and it didn't seem he fully understood the role -- he was flipping through different open roles at the organization because he was having difficulty finding the correct job description to read from.

Interview
Hour long interview with interview panel. They opened with their vision for the role, gave an overview of the interview process, and then asked me specific questions. The questions were typical, asking about team leadership style, experience bringing in new revenue, ideas for the future of the organization. At the end, they offered me the opportunity to ask them any questions I had. The interview was cordial and warm.
