      Android Engineer Interview

      2 Oct 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Hinge (New York, NY) in Sept 2020

      Interview

For a company that supposedly takes pride in operating with core values, absolutely none of them were shown during the interview process. I wonder what was the point of interviewing me at all. First is a Zoom interview with their Director of Mobile Engineering (which was unusual because 1. you usually meet these guys after 2nd rounds and 2. he was pretty inexperienced to be a director of anything according to LinkedIn). He unexpectedly brought in an android engineer which wasn’t too bad but he was damn near sleeping the whole time. We went over my experience, some basic behavioral questions, and “company culture.” Afterwards, the recruiter sent me an email to request a phone interview. I answered promptly with my availability. The next day he sent the exact same email and I sent the exact same response. He finally confirmed the next day. The day of the phone call, he was 10 minutes late to calling me. I finished the call anyway and received the assessment which was a prompt to create a people counter app. I sent in my assessment the following Monday morning. I had to email the recruiter to know if he even got it because he didn’t respond. I haven’t heard back since. I would suggest anyone who applies to keep your options wide open. They do not follow what they preach.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Hinge in Aug 2025

      Interview

The interview process with Hinge was very smooth & moved quickly. It was about 6 weeks exactly from the day I applied to the day I received an offer. The recruiting team helped expedite steps in order to contend with other offers I had received. The entire interview process felt quite thoughtful & the hiring panel all felt like great people to work with. The interview process consisted of a recruiter screen, hiring manager screen, a take home Android project, two technical interviews building on top of the take home project, & a final culture interview. The hiring manager screen asked high-level Android technical questions. The technical interviews were a mix of explaining design decisions, live coding, & general Android questions.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Hinge in June 2025

      Interview

I interviewed for the Android Intern position, and it was pretty straightforward. I was always kept in the loop and knew what was going on and what stage I was in at all times. The process took just two weeks which was really nice compared to other companies that takes months to get to the next stage of interviews. It consisted of a 30 minute recruiter screening, to see experience and fit. Then a take home assessment to be completed over the weekend which was to create an app that was a fair challenge. Lastly, in the final round they asked to implement some features in the app, and a couple behavioral questions. Overall, really pleasant experience
