I interviewed for a buyer position and was initially told it would be a quick phone interview. We did the call through MS Teams and I was the only one who was required to have my camera on.
Comments were immediately made about my appearance and that it was expected that the ideal candidate would have on a suit, although it was originally said to be a quick phone call introduction.
The interviewer would ask personal questions about my current role and processes, but would respond "no" to most answers. This went on for 45 minutes.
They asked me to complete a timed (2 hour) assessment that consisted of:
1. Reading drawings: answering questions based on a blurry drawing all in Japanese.
2. Production Volume: calculating monthly and accumulated volume (with graphs),
3. Quote Analysis: analyzing quotes from (4) different suppliers with (7) different variables and completing a set of questions.
4. Cost elements: calculating straight line depreciation costs, defining direct labor, fixed labor, and variable costs, and calculating product sales prices with information provided from financial statements, and then re-calculating everything again with different information.
5. Production Support: calculating manufacturing operations takt time, cycle time, and labor rates based on poorly formatted table.
6. Quality: organizing data from a table and preparing a Pareto chart.
The assessment was overall not difficult but very time consuming and they required me to complete it from 7pm - 9pm. Upon submitting the assessment back to them I told them I was not interested in the position due to the vast difference in expectations of role vs. salary range.
