I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Howard Hughes Medical Institute (Ashburn, VA)
Interview
The interview questions themselves were very average. However, the tone of the person conducting my interview wasn't. I've had plenty of phone interviews over the years, but never had one where I felt like everything I said was dismissed until this one. At the end, I was asked if I had any questions, and that was it. The answers were very short, and I barely got a goodbye. From the beginning of talking to this person, it felt like they already made up their mind before the interview began. I've never felt that way about an interview before.
A couple hours later, I was about to hit the "send" button on an email, thanking my interviewer for their time and consideration. A few seconds before I would've sent it, I got an email with a rejection letter. It was the fastest response I’ve ever gotten. If they had already made up their mind before the interview, they should have done us both a favor and just never scheduled it in the first place. It would've saved us both time and energy. Unfortunate, because I was really excited about this interview.
The interview was very professional. I met many people and really enjoyed the process. It seems like a wonderful place to work. I plan on accepting the job offer I received.
