The company was extremely unprofessional in its handling of the interview process. I believe you can tell a lot about a company based on their HR department and how they interact with potential candidates. I was flown in and the company probably spent $750-1000 on my flights/hotels/networking event in total. I completed the in person process and was ultimately told a couple weeks later that I was well liked and received a verbal offer from ION. They said it was pending approval from "higher ups" and I needed to wait, dragging out the process almost two months before finally sending a short email apologizing for being unable to continue with my candidacy. I had done my research on websites such as Glassdoor to see this was quite common and accepted another offer before I heard from ION, but I am still confused as to why a company would spend almost a grand on each candidate to eventually (and knowingly?) ghost them. I would not have accepted an offer from the company even if it did come through just based on how sketchy and unprofessional the process felt. There were many red flags associated with ION and it does not reflect highly on the company.
