I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at ION Group (London, England) in July 2022
Interview
Had to create a mock content overview and demonstrate how I would deliver such content, no details on what to prepare, what the expectations are etc. Ended up presenting for 20min and did not get any feedback, after falling into an unnecessary conversation around what the semantics of a selected phrase in the slide. The presentation was ended shortly after I agreed that the phrase can easily be altered to the preference of the hiring manager after presenting the fact that it is a phrase from a well known and highly influential academic journal, followed by several practitioner-oriented books. The manager also insisted that candidates are well versed in understanding psychometrics, however when I curiously asked about their application of psychometrics in L&D she was unable to hold a conversation and quickly changed topics.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The hiring manager insisted that one phrase in my mock presentation was wrong and that it meant something else (note: the phrase was selected from a highly cited and influential academic article, and mentioned in most popular management and organization practitioner books (e.g. HBR). One of the strangest interviews I experienced. Could have been a test of how I handle rude and imbecile comments, but then again, could have just been a hiring manager's pet peeve. In a world where employers do their best to improve their image to create a desirable working environment, there is always an ION Group of sorts. There was no introduction, there was no conversation, just mock content presentation.
