      Technical Writer Interview

      6 Aug 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Imagine Learning in June 2013

      Interview

The hiring interview was longer than I expected. Overall, I had 6 different interviews. The first was a short phone interview with HR. Next, I took a 2-hour writing exam. Following that, I met with the entire writing team and then the Director of Creative Teams. After that, I met with the manager of the writing department. Finally, my last visit was a tour of the office and a meeting with the VP of operations, along with two team leads of teams the position would be working with. The 2-hour writing exam was difficult more for its time limit than its content. They purposely make the test really long so that you will prioritize. My test had grammar, editing, technical, business, and layout questions. The writing team had a marked-up copy of my resume and asked questions about my experience as well as technical questions. The meeting with the Director of Creative Teams was short and was mostly a discussion about the company. Mainly he just fielded any questions I had about the company. The meeting with the manager of the writing department was about an hour long and was just a list of questions. They were questions about work habits - how long it takes you to get work done, how you interact with others, etc. The meeting with the VP of Operations was pretty short, about 20 minutes. He asked questions about how you deal with failure and how you can make contributions to the company. The meetings with the team leads were very informal and they mostly just wanted to know my background.

      Question 1

"How long does it take you to get your work done?" The question threw me off because it was so unspecific.

      Interview

The process was very straightforward and simple. I met with the manager first and then was introduced to another technical writer for another interview the same day. It took a few weeks to hear back from them, but I was expecting that.

      Interview

First, I took a written test covering various aspects of grammar, writing style, and office communication. A few days later, I came back for an interview. It was a very enjoyable process; I talked with my prospective supervisor and also a prospective coworker. After the interview, I was given a tour around the office.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Imagine Learning (Provo, UT) in Mar 2017

      Interview

I applied online and got an email the following week asking me to come in to take a writing test. I took the test, which was fairly easy. A week later I got an email saying that I had done well asking me to fill out an an application and to come in for an interview. It was a long interview, I met briefly with the head of HR, then the Writing Team leader, then I met the Writing team and was given a short tour of the building. The interview was very in-depth and everything on my resume and application was discussed in detail. I was informed a week later that the position was offered to someone else. Overall it was a very positive experience, everyone I met was polite, professional, and friendly. And I felt like I got a fair shake due to the detailed nature of the interview. I cam away feeling it went well though perhaps it did not or else they chose someone else better qualified.
