      Senior Web Developer Interview

      23 June 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate

      Declined offer

I applied online. I interviewed at InMotion Software

      Interview

After applying for a position online, I received an email from a recruiter asking when I was available for a phone interview. I responded promptly, but received no response. I sent a polite follow up after a day or so, but still no response. I'm not sure why the recruiter asked me to interview in the first place if he didn't actually want to interview me? Seems unprofessional.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at InMotion Software (Austin, TX) in Jan 2017

      Interview

I was first contacted by a technical recruiter through Linkedin. After the first phone screen, explaining what I was looking for and what my experience is, she proceeded to tell me what they were looking for, and that I did not match the skill-set. I had to repeatedly ask her to read specific parts of the resume and question how that was not a match. By the end of the call, I was surprised to hear she thought I'd be a great fit going forward, so she sent me the technical take home project. She said this can be done in Angular, React or jQuery, my choice. Over the coming days, I completed the project in both React and jQuery and sent the files over. The following week, I was contacted about coming on site for an interview. I was quite happy until I questioned what version of the project we would be focussing on so I could be prepared. It then got quite confusing as she said I will be considered for either a React position, Angular or general position. Well, being so vague sets you up for failure and at that stage, I thought, this feels odd, I do not want to go further in the process. I told her the lack of detail was the reason and this crazy lady thanked me for being honest about being uncomfortable going forward. A week or so goes by and she calls again to see if I would reconsider. I was very clear about getting details beforehand. The onsite was short, quick code review, but turns out they were sending me out to a client as a contractor. Wow, thanks for letting me know that. I left the interview knowing I did well, but not so sure about the job. She followed me out to the hallway, and asked me if I got an offer that included the minimum salary I would accept, would I accept the offer? What a way to sell it. My response? If you give me the minimum thats all I will do when I get here, and that doesn't sound like a match for either of us. Don't call me again.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. I am the Lead Recruiter (Nick Forrest) for InMotion. Nothing similar to your story has ever been brought to my attention. Would you mind contacting me so that we could chat about the experience? We are always striving to better our process.
