I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Indiana State Prison (Michigan City, IN) in June 2017
Interview
Straight forward situational questions to determine whether you'd adhere to policy. I think pay varies by who interviews you, but generally you are sat in an office with a Lieutenant and Case Manager; they ask you questions and take notes on your answers. (We were offered pay beginning at $14.16 plus benefits after six months). All staff are upfront about the revolving door nature of the work but it provides a great starting point for those seeking a law or corrections career, and various opportunities for advancement. Afterwards, if you are given a conditional offer (contingent upon successful passing of a background check), then you job shadow.
This is the second stage of your interview process. Ask plenty of questions and you may be offered the job immediately.

Overtime is always available the pay is not worth it. There always hiring always revolving door. No one really stays the long 12 hour days are hectic also. Applied Sunday they call me Tuesday to come in for an interview.
I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Indiana State Prison in Feb 2010
Interview
All of the questions are situational, what if's. All they really want to hear is that you will report any incidents to a higher authority. They want to know that you'll be ethical at all times no matter what or who it may effect
