      Software Engineer (Scala) Interview

      4 Apr 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Tbilisi
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Input Output (Tbilisi) in Feb 2021

      Interview

I've applied online, got contacted by the recruiter about a month after the application. (the application had a required field to enter the salary expectation) - 1st stage was an interview with the recruiter, general questions about my motivation to join the company, and experience with the technologies that were listed in the job description. - 2nd was a technical assignment, I was given 1 week to complete it. The assignment was in scala and required basic knowledge of PoW blockchain. -3rd was an interview with 2 potential team members, they've given some details about the project, and ask questions regarding scala, and given some hypothetical task, how would I implement and test the feature, in detail. As I later found out, the questions were based on what I've written in my CV. -4th stage was an interview with team lead, we mainly talked about the project. -5th I was asked to give 2 references from 2 previous employees, without them, we could not proceed to the next stage. -6th was an interview with 2 HRs, they have again, asked me about my motivation to join the company, my experience throughout the interview, I had an opportunity to ask some questions as well. This was a basic culture fit interview I felt like. Then I've got the offer. the process in total took about 1.5 - 2 months.

      Software Engineer (Scala) Interview

      20 July 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Input Output in July 2021

      Interview

I had an HR initial talk, followed by an assessment task (Scala code), which had stated in its requirements that it will take a few hours. I finished implementing all the requirements and added minimal testing, all in about 2 hours, then I submitted it. I got back a rejection with a lengthy feedback, which left me with the idea that they wanted me to do way more (something that would take maybe a couple of days of work), some of the things not even stated in the requirements. To my disappointment, the HR defended the feedback that I was given by the engineer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

HR: - What do I think of this and that, from the blockchain world? - What is my salary expectation?

I am sorry to hear that you had a negative interview experience. You would have spoken to one of our Technical Talent Partners (Recruiters) as a first step followed by your assessment (as mentioned). We appreciate your feedback on the assessment and whilst standard practice is to ensure that expectations are clearly stated when discussing the task with interviewees we will take this feedback to the team for future reference. We wish you the best of luck with your future career.
